An Overview of Capital Punishment Essay -- Argumentative Persuasive Es

An Overview of Capital penalizationIntroduction Capital penalty is punishment by decease for committing a crime. Sincethe early 1800s most executions have resulted from convictions for murder. Thedeath penalization has also been compel for such serious crimes as armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, and treason. There is much variableness aboutwhether or not bang-up punishment is effective in discouraging crime. In the early 1990s, 36 states of the United States had laws that permittedthe death punishment. These laws were greatly influenced by a 1972 decision of theSupreme Court of the United States which had criminalize the death penalty as it wasthen imposed, describing the carrying out of the death penalty as cruel andunusual punishment. But the court left undetermined the possibility that the deathpenalty might be imposed for trusted crimes and if it was applied according toclear standards. After this decision was made, new capital punishment laws were made tosatisfy the Supre me Courts requirements. These laws limit the death penalty tomurder and to other specified crimes that result in a persons death. Thesecrimes involve armed robbery, hijacking, and kidnapping. Many countries, including most European and Latin-American nations, haveabolished the death penalty since 1900 - including Canada, which did so in 1976.In the early 1990s, the United States was the whole Western industrializednation where executions still took place.History Capital punishment was common among all ancient civilizations. It was usedfor a variety of offenses that today arent crimes at all, like stealing thekeys to someones wi... ...eonly two states which use this system are Utah and Idaho. Conclusion While writing this essay, I prove a lot of different arguments both for andagainst capital punishment. After deliberation both sides of the issue, I came tothe conclusion that capital punishment isnt a estimable idea. There are too manyrisks involved - such as executing an inn ocent person. Many people feel that ifsomeone murders other person, then he too deserves to be killed. Butmurdering another person wont bring the other one back, and two wrongs dontmake a right. I come back it would be worse to spend the rest of your life in acell than to go through hell for a fewer minutes but then be over with it forever. Therefore, I think that a good alternative to receiving the death penalty wouldbe a life sentence in prison with no chance of parole.
